Her career began as a young actor appearing in such films like Alaska (1996), Now and Then (1995), Hocus Pocus(1993) and All I Want for christmas (1991). She became more famous in 1999 when her performance in American Beauty gained worldwide recognition. After that, she was able to appear in Ghost World (2002), which received a lot of praise, and earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
